With Semester Musik 005 we did what we set out to do: nurture the talented up-and-coming. From our in-house talent pool we present two smart Berliners: Mat.Joe. They make their debut matching the season with an EP full of warmth and feeling, ?Walking By? & ?Fly Forever?.
A1: ?Walking By? is a dreamy track that invokes the mystic of the moment. Mat.Joe put the diffuser over ambitious breaks. When the soft and tender female vocal starts to sing, time stands still, slowmotion, seconds feel like an eternity.
A2: The groove of ?Fly Forever? goes directly into the hips, you won't get rid of the chorus, coming from the boxes it's gonna drill itself directly into your brain: ?If you want it, you got it, forever.? The beat floats lightly and lucent through the track, the vibrant vocals are simply to fly away, driven by sharp snares that whip it to the peak: ?Yeah, fly baby, Let the music take your mind!?
A3: Niconé made a straight, happy club track out of ?Walking By?, he made the bass fatter and smuggled a playful synthie melody in. He delivered disco pop house with an ironic reference to anthem after the break ? a cool hands-up-track for the peak time.
A4: At the foot of the Rocky Mountains in far away Denver Hotbox scaled down the pace and mixed a reduced slow-house-track with a heavy load of funk. And Hotbox knows damn well where to place his luscious claps and the warm rhodes that give the track that certain dose of coolness.
A5: Mat.Joe are masters in sampling, children of hiphop ? that's unmistakably inscribed in ?Bonus Loop?: thick bass lines, a funky percussion loop, a fat beat. We of Semester Musik simply say: ?Loop that shit!?
