  • Description Christoph Vogel and Levente Pavelka make House music. Under the name Suburb, these two young producers from Neumeunster, Germany craft elegant music in the spirit of nearby Hamburg. Listening to the body of work that weve heard, there was a sense that making great music for this duo was simply natural. There is an ease with which all their ideas gel together into something that is functional, streamlined, physically moving, and fully engaging. Call it osmosis: Suburb seems to have taken their name to heart and absorbed the radiating moodiness and dance floor savvy of the nearby metropolis thats so famous for its measured take on the American House tradition. Youll hear that they bring a little something of their own as wellsomething more uplifting that transcends the cold gray climate they inhabit, rather than merely reflecting it. This is their debut release, and were ecstatic to be introducing their music to the world for all to bask in the warmth that they exude. This digital introduction to the Suburb sound opens with the summer-friendly Pinot Noir. A solid, pumping undercurrent lifts light, percussion and kalimba melodies along through the breeze, sailing out of view on soft strains of analogue warmth. Grauzone brings the tone down literally and figuratively, with a deep tubular drone giving way to minor key refrain that builds slowlyone for patient, tasteful dance floors. The next in line is the Aeras remix of this slow churning rumbler. He added a thick, jacking broken beat to the original and blast peals of squealing LFO radiation all over it until the ammo runs out. Those familiar with Aera know that his strength comes in part from taking the expected elements of various genres and rubbing them against each other, which were happy to see in action here. Torino uses the energy from that sonic blast and ratchets it up for a proper tech house burner; slamming drums and a thick, relentless neon synth bassline shoulder the weight of this one while Christoph and Levente sneak in some crafty atmospherics in the background. Closer Mild keeps those atmospherics handy for one last go at the summer vibe that opened the EP. They close it all out in properly sexy fashion with a classic liquid melody over a shuffling house rhythma sultry open-air anthem for sunsets and sunrises.
