DescriptionLast year, Alexandre Mouracade producing under the moniker SONNS, released two chart-topping tracks that were played globally by heavyweights, Eric Dr. Dunks Duncan, Phil Kieran, Dj Gilb-r, The Hacker, Cosmo Vitelli and many more. Now On My Mind and Starts Tonight get special treatment by a list of notable dj/producers giving new life to two tracks that have already earned serious attention.
Kasper Bjorkes (hfn, Compost Records), version of On My Mind is a slow-slung chugger, with electric drum programming threaded together with eerie synth lines and a nice twist on the vocals.
Fellow Belgians Geoffroy Mugwump (Kompakt, International Feel, Throne of Blood) & DC Salas (Biologic, Correspondant, Relish) have taken some time-off out of their respective projects to get together in the studio for the first time for their remix of On My Mind and boy, they've tried to come up with something different. With the uber-slow and dark electronic pop vibe of Ghent's Carrera club in mind (that was the one next the legendary Boccaccio in the mid-80's), they've delivered a surprising and daring slab of slo-mo proto-newbeat/industrial aceness that probably sounds like not much else at the moment.
With the second track, Tuff City Kids (a Gerd Janson of Running Back Records side project) remix Starts Tonight as an early morning dance anthem touching on the darker side of things with an entrancing organ chop that glues it all together.
Night Plane offers up a deep aquatic remix with warm textures and subtle techno sensibilities rounded out with wet vocals and a syrupy psychedelic keyboard lead.
Fellow LA-based collaborator and producer, Golden Touch (known for his grammy nominated production with Sam Sparro) slows everything down delivering a hard and heavy version reminiscent of anything from your favorite depeche mode b-side edit to a wicked basement grinder good for practically any dance floor.
