Same Things

  • Artists Kris Wadsworth, Silky, Jonny Cruz, disCerN, Lee Brinx, Davide Sciortino
  • Release Date 2013-09-16
  • Labels Lower East
  • Catalog LOW031
  • Description The 31st release on Lower East comes courtesy of the label's bossman, Lee Brinx - a man who has been involved in London's club scene since the mid-nineties. With releases on his own label as well as ALiVE, Hot Waves and NYC imprint Stranjjur, Lee's ability to roll out dancefloor-friendly, underground smashes has been proven time and again and this latest release is no different.
Same Things features the haunting vocals of Davide Sciortino and works off a bouncing bassline that appears within the first minute of the track. Channelling the garage vibes of Lee's past, skippy percussion boost the track's energy further while subtle elements in the background give it a sense of fun, with Davide's vocals providing the catchy hook and high strings helping to create short moments of tension.
The track also undergoes two dramatic transformations thanks to Kris Wadsworth and disCerN (AKA Silky and Jonny Cruz). Wadsworth weights in first with a typically esoteric rework that features a gravelly analogue bassline, chugging along with hefty kick drums and a squelching bottom end. Davide's vocals are pitched down and chopped up, reduced to a bare minimum and used to add depth to the track, echoing in and out of the background. Meanwhile Silky and Jonny Cruz bring out the dark side of Lee's original, using the vocals in conjunction with melancholy melodies, high strings and an ominous bassline to produce an emotive rendition that finishes off the package nicely.
Three very different versions, all of which make a great addition to any DJ's record box (or USB key!)...
