Rendez Vous EP
Great Stuff Recordings
When Jay Lumen comes a knocking with a new material, you'd be crazy to turn him down. And so, the Hungarian producer who is fast becoming one of Great Stuff's most popular artists, returns with another two tracks of sheer power for your ears.
The title track is a deft little number; a shoulder-popping beast that's all about heads-down grooving. Filtered soul infiltrates the breakdowns, with pitched-down vocals and teases of soaring strings taking you a world away from the punchy-yet-subtle techno machinations of the main sections. The juxtaposition gives the drops huge impact, and the incessantly rolling nature of the beats makes Rendez Vous a hugely effective set piece.
Boomrush The Show is jacking and stomping from the word go, with our host's trademark skill of creating an intricate percussive groove without making it sound too cluttered at the centre of the track. Snares chatter and hi-hats fizz while the big-bottomed B-line drives its way through the track's beating heart, with carefully placed horn blasts and a snappy rap vocal providing some meat. Enormous builds and hugely satisfying downsweeps of white noise bring the tension/release contrast.
