DescriptionHere we go with another deep house discovery for you all out there sifting through the digital dirt. Based in Cordoba, Argentina up and comer Martin Bellomo has been releasing finely crafted dance floor material on his own Rationalism label for the past three years. Drawing from his eclectic tastes, Martin has fashioned an accessible sound that is imbued with more experimental qualities that we here at Thema so very dearly appreciate. We have a generous helping of six tracks here for all of you who can appreciate the same.
Opener No Love lays out some classic organ over a swinging house beat accompanied by some off kilter guitar which segues into the deeper Funktionslust, a further exploration into the house underworld. Lovely rounded bass stabs rub up against warm jazz chords with some tape experimentation in the background to keep things colorful. A short break from the late night dance floor session, title track Los Cuentos de Chinaski dives into the melodic end of Martin's sound eschewing kick drums in favor of hypnotic percussion. The beat returns to center stage with Bipolaridad. A bit heavier than the previous tracks, it goes down a familiar route before taking a woozy detour through the club about halfway through. Right after that work out he hits us with another sweat ridden track; Per001the EPs hardest hitting track, amounting to a straight deep house beatdown. Winding it down, Martin leaves us on a deep note with Temor. It snaps into place with crisp 808-style percussion that gets a nice twisting throughout the tracks duration. Some introspective chord work accompanies deftly manipulated samples for a beautiful yet unnerving dance floor experience. All funk, no junk.
