DescriptionAs 2010 closes we dip our ink for one final foray into the micro phenomena that is Scottish, London-based 'Architeq'. He has certainly turned a few heads since his debut 'Gold + Green' dropped on Tirk in Sep 2009. His mix of lazy funk and electronic squelch mastery sounds quite like nothing else out there. Our final EP from the album bases itself around one of the lead tracks 'Into The Cosmos'.
Leading the charge on a multiple media assault is unquestionably the most impressive video we have been involved with to date. Bristol based 'Chopsy Animation' (made up of regulars from the Oscar-avalanching Aardman Animation crew) have turned in a mastercraft in stop frame video. Their story animates an entire record collection and bounces it down the streets of Bristol. Sounds freaky? Well yes it is, but in a 'well cool for school' way. Check it out here.
Matching the videos prowess we have assembled an EP of fine musical cuts. First up is the original of 'Into The Cosmos'. Architeq may have made it in 2006 but its freshness and uniqueness still shine through to this day. On remix duty Mr Beatnick applies his deft remix skills on his dub-driven stabby-synth version.
While creating the album Swedish based Dan Lissvik was one of the inspirations for the track 'Odyssey' so it was very fitting when he agreed to remix the very track he inspired. His version flies straight in from the leftfield. He adds layers of quirky steel strummed guitar while stripping the tune down to its bass groove elements.
The EP completes itself with a trio of Architeq originals. Halloween Acid takes space-echo to a new spooky dimension and The Hare is a lost psychedelic, science fiction soundtrack from 1973.
