DescriptionShortly after commemorating their 7th year anniversary, the Get Physical Music crew is also proud to unveil their 5th installment of their Full Body Workout series. The compilation started as - and still is - a platform to showcase new and upcoming talented artists.
Leading the way is the dangerous duo Catz N Dogz. Their low-slung grooving House number 'Gotta Know' glides along on a smooth surface of chords, tediously tuned percussion and tender vocals begging to find something out. What exactly? We don't have the slightest clue and while listening and dancing to this tight little number, we frankly don't care.
Desy, Katerina & Heikki L make up the trio out of the cold Scandinavian land of Finland. This, as for most of the artists on this compilation, is their first appearance on Get Physical but if they continue to make tracks with the same depth, captivation and subtle energy as 'Dreamland', there will be many more.
Icelandic Pop band Steed Lord may not be our cup of tea over here at Get Physical but the Berlin crew of Keine Musik has remixed and turned their song, 'You', from being a festival entertainer to an underground club killer. Contorting the vocals into stuttering remnants of their former selves, while concocting a hypnotic rhythm with toms as a bridge from Reykjavik across Lake Michigan to the Windy City.
Montreal resident Maher Daniel (Daniel is indeed his last name) represents Canada to the fullest, even if it is with a French accent. 'Casbar' gradually creeps up on you as every sound in the tune does not burst out within the first 4 bars. It is not filled with cheap gimmicks either but is a slowly burning composition with a lush and full sound aesthetic. Just proper feel good dance music.
Flying back across the Atlantic we make a stop on the Iberian Peninsula in Spain's 3rd largest city, Valencia. Kid Bucle, Darlyn Vlys & Rafa Silas prove that three aren't necessarily a crowd. Their sleek Tech-House number, 'Sanjay', is exceptionally produced, putting to use captivating rhythms, proper melodies and finely tuned effects. This is not your typical background club music beats, but rather a mythical sonic tale.
Our main man Siopis is back with his first solo contribution since his single 'Penny On The Lane' and has transformed our perception of House and Techno music. 'I'm On Miami' picks up right where he left off with bulky percussion, rumbling low-end bass and totally freaky pitched down Hip-Hop style vocal. It might sound as if these element clash, but Siopis stitches it together tighter than a pair of leggings.
Italian wonder-boy, Andrea Fiorito, has in a very short time developed his own unique sound and production style; something not so familiar with relatively new producers. His use of organic instruments that are genuinely played and recorded are a large testament to his noteworthy sound. 'It Must Be Love' features these skills at use. An intro with bouncing trumpets rolls along, before the tightly woven drums take over and slowly let in the melancholic wail of a flute. However, flute and trumpets aside - this track has enough cleverness in it to outsmart Stephan Hawkins.
Rounding out Volume 5 is Turmspringer with 'Sturm & Drang'. Their name translated from German actually means "Tower Jumper" but these beats would make anyone think twice and give them a reason to live. Well, if nothing else, at least a reason to dance. Detroit Techno influences are very prevalent in this composition but the boys are all about going forward - not looking back, and move forward is exactly what this track does. Constantly and subtly changing and morphing as it slowly prowls the night like a black panther.
Full Body Workout has always been a labor of love for DJ T., M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade. After years of building the label and the name, while garnering a bit of popularity along the way; still the best feeling is to bring through and nurture new young talent. Defining the "Get Physical sound" is something many young eager producers spend many sleepless night mulling over but there is no instruction booklet, no map and no guide. It has to just reveal itself through good music and that is what we hope we have achieved with this serie, by giving the 19 artists who were involved a respectable realm to share their music.
