Fuckshuffle

  • Release Date 2007-10-18
  • Labels Minus
  • Catalog MINUS57
  • Description As the evenings close in, JPLS makes a timely return with more dark, brooding electronics. This year has already seen the release of the Twilite LP, establishing him as one of the leading exponents of 21st century conceptual techno; this time round however, there are a few subtle shifts of emphasis. The beats are tougher for one, plus there’s a distinct acid flavour to the proceedings but the tracks still retain that otherworldly appeal that defines his productions. Listening to JPLS is like catching your reflection in a broken mirror. The urgent repetition of Fuckshuf fle seems to exist in a million different places at once while the bubbling acid bass worms itself into your head, scribbling odd patterns of thought across your subconscious that slowly dissolve like smoke rings. Activatroy is a supreme example of stripped down acid techno featuring a dangerous 303 line that morphs and squelches its way through the bass-heavy arrangement while the tripped out vocal sample of the title punctuates the monotonous groove to startling effect. Similarly, Quasarlude goes full steam ahead through a psychedelic mirage of sound that shimmers uncontrollably in the wake of the charging beats that disrupt its solitude. There is simply no return as the nervous synthline spirals out of control imploding in on itself as the track reduces the dance floor to rubble. The vinyl release is completed by the Wax edit of the monolithic Synthesis. JPLS adds yet more acid to the audio punchbowl with the digital download selection. Based around dark, moody bass lines and full of wild tweaks, both M100 and Door25 possess quirky personalities that need to be experienced in their entirety to be fully understood. Hal fpil l maintains the pressure with its tribal techno groove and fuzzy bass and as the name suggests, is best enjoyed amongst friends, while Dope is another 808-powered dance floor burner with a really phat sound and constantly shifting rhythm patterns, drops and reverses that make it a quality mixing tool. Finally there’s the full 10-minute version of Synthesis to finish off the digital selection – an epic rollercoaster of a journey to the very heart of the JPLS sound.
