DescriptionThis year has been somewhat of a transitional period for Wendyhouse following the whirl of free downloads that first propelled them into the consciousness of the online masses.
After the release of Hidden Passage, which marked their first jaunt into the world of dubstep, the duo has returned to their liquid drum n bass roots for their debut EP.
Escalate EP is a glistening compilation of measureless liquid vibes reinforced with a dark, cosmic driven intelligence that resonates throughout all four of the EPs tracks. Aided throughout by the effortlessly cool and smoky vocals of in-house/guest lyricist FRANKi Escalate rockets into life with the aggressive beat chugging behemoth that is opener Falling Apart. Setting the pace for what is to be Wendyhouses most cerebrally structured collection of compositions to date. Change does exactly that, calmly switching from its sparkling inception to a brooding, low-slung amen infused roller gliding ethereally towards each drop backed by twisted flurries of drums. Escalate flips off with a fusion of jungle snares before cooling to an eerie mix of vocals that shrewdly pertains to the sound that the UK pair based has achieved with the EP. Culminating into a fierce whip the beat proceeds to rain down and splash tenaciously with splatters of hammering synths drenching each break of bass and drum. The final track Apogee sharply commences by surging into a storm of bleepery that is soon vigorously met by a clattering of kicks, sparking into a spree of smooth liquid blues and abstract vocal melodies to close what is a profoundly impressive debut EP.
