DescriptionSometimes you have to let go and surrender to the forbidden temptations, and this new release by Swiss minimal house legend DANIEL PORTMAN is meant to be an irresistible one. Continuing with the acclaimed releases on our label, we bring you 4 brand new master pieces, all of them great tools to bring you closer to the dark centuries of the middle ages, combined, of course, with Daniel's signature sounds and dark clubby beats. With having 4 tracks in a row on number 1 on beatport minimal Top100 in the past 12 months, Daniel undoubtedly proofed to be one big rock in that specific genre of music.
We're kicking off the EP with the title track CRUSADER that opens up the first chapter of this round table. Crusaders dressed in full armature just came back from a bloody and exhausting battle and are sitting around the table, they eat, drink, laugh and amuse. Enjoy the heavy lifting beat sections that rise with full intention and continuously building up till the epic break down. Monks of the religious order are expecting the crusaders with a glorious chant, wooden flutes and the atmosphere of a foggy valley on a dark and rainy night.
APPALOOSA takes a pumping minimal house direction, coming up with some whobbling bass lines, subtly chosen effect textures and a strong and low pitched kick drum. Some shaking percussion elements on top keep the track an a constant rolling base. Our knights have now reached a small and mysterious village in the middle of nowhere, nothing but forsaken and empty streets. A single Monk all of a sudden passes them by, he's praying, with a crucifix wrapped around his dirty hands. He looks them in the eyes and sais: "If men would concentrate their minds to the limit, the universe would be theirs."
The crusaders are confused by the old Monks words and decide to horseback ride on through the dark coppice to the next village.
As they reached the pompous castle of KNIGHTESS there was the king waiting for them. Fanfares of glory are playing in the background when they were horseback riding through the big Belfort Gap. Percussive melodies are building the base of the track, while a stomping bass line kicks hard underneath the clubby beat elements. Vocal snippets and dark synth stabs support the unique vibe of the track. While we reach the break down our crusaders are passing the church of Belfort where some heavenly organ melodies play that reverberate in the magic walls of the church. They are impressed by the modern buildings and costly mural paintings. Finally they have their audience with the king who give them the order to travel through the european countries to the far eastern and undiscovered Arabian lands to search for some lost royalty chevaliers.
Months later the knights reach the Persian Gulf. Since weeks they didn't see any soul, next to some hungry carnivores that live in the dusty deserts. INTO THE CRUSADERS' WORLD takes place in that dusty environment. Arabian flutes, orchestral timbales and low toms rise with cinematic intense and conciliate the spirit of some old and almost forgotten usages. The track drops in a clubby but still dark rhythm section that lets nothing to be desired. All of a sudden the crusader hit a group of wild arabian natives. As they don't understand each others strange language the situation escalates and it ends up in a big fight. Dirty electro synths, pumping half-time dubstep beats are illustrating the bloody battle. Our knights win after a long fight. One prisoner gets weak after torture and tells them about some foreign cavallier that have passed their country not long ago.
