  • Release Date 2013-05-13
  • Labels Thoughtless Music
  • Catalog TLM079
  • Description Having remixed KiloWatts and, more recently, Deepchild, Alland Byallo is no stranger to the Thoughtless roster; on his debut solo EP for us, the California transplant residing in Berlin delivers three fresh cuts of the organic techno-house hybrid he's become renowned for. The title track rides a classically infectious chord pattern and bouncing low end into the early hours, where it collides head-on with a detuned melody that captures the imagination and never lets go. U.S. tech-house legends H-Foundation (a.k.a. Hipp-e and Halo) join forces with the vocals of Switzerland's David Durango to turn out a transatlantic collaboration that succeeds in aiming squarely for the big room without sacrificing a millimeter of depth; meanwhile, Toronto's Brian Johnson turns in a compellingly mysterious dark house rework that defies expectation at every turn. Alland's second original on offer, A Lovely Place, conjures a familiar after-hours scenario with distant minor-key pads, upfront stabs, and muted rhythmic vocals combining to satisfy the hungriest late night crowds. Finally, Blunderlust displays Byallo's masterful merging of raw deep house and analog techno tendencies, crafting a hypnotizing narrative that casts a potent spell. With three true originals that exemplify his uniquely forward-thinking style while still paying respect to the rich history of underground dance music, Byallo shows exactly why his productions are anything but bygones...
