DescriptionHead Kicks Records returns in September with, Positive Divide feat. Alexander Easts, Better Way, backed with a remix from Da Sunlounge.Head Kicks Records was launched in July 2013, with Positive Divides Back 2 Me, which featured the vocals of house aficionado, Robert Owens. Positive Divide aka Steve Lee was born and bred in the Northern England city of Liverpool and now resides in Nottingham, with a style deeply rooted in warm, emotive, discoid tinged deep house.
Here he drops the second single on his Head Kicks imprint, again showcasing an undeniable quality, with intriguing sounds and a low-slung dance floor aesthetic. The release kicks off with the original mix of Better Way, a funk-laden discoid deep house cut, featuring 8bit digital synth licks, cosseting Rhodes and the heartfelt vocal lines of Alexander East, running alongside gritty saw-wave bass tones, and maintaining an ever evolving dynamism throughout the tracks five and a half minute duration.
A Dub interpretation is offered up to follow, doing exactly that, stripping the vibe back to a straight drum and synth-focused feel for those peak-time moments.
On the latter half of the single we have PDs Space Head Mix, and as the name would suggest the rework embraces a tripped out, psychedelic vibe, with intricate, blooming melodies and a punchy depth instilled in the drum programming.
Closing the single is the killer remix from Kolour, 2020Vision, and Defected artist, Da Sunlounge. The Brit producer delivers a stunningly contrasting mix, taking things on a straight 4/4, deep house excursion, with smooth synth stabs, bubbling bass licks and swirling atmospherics, rounding off the package nicely.
Positive Divides Better Way is out on Head Kicks Records 16th September 2013.
