DescriptionHaving contributed to the King Unique remix project with his version of “Dirty”, Paolo Mojo is no stranger to Curfew Records. Without doubt one of the success stories of 2008, Paolo and his Oosh Records label made waves with cuts such as Nightlaw, Interstellar and Deus Ex Machina gaining support from tastemakers as wide apart as Pete Tong, Hot Chip and Felix The Housecat.
Smokestack is all about Paolo’s darker side. Intense, minimalist and moody, the game plan here is all about matching understated energy with a compelling hypnotic aura to create a powerful peak-time tech stormer. Booming beats, abrasive bass-licks and a wigged out flickering riff create the required mood before explosions of harmonic echoing keys provide the moment in the break.
Swiss producer Michal Ho, best known for his work with Berlin’s Tuning Spork label has been selected to provide the rework. Taking the melodic elements of the original and warping them with lashings of drawn out reverb, Ho has created a harmonic mood-setter that neatly straddles the line between groovesome, jacking tech house and slightly off-kilter atmospheric deepness.
